Official, local or shop warranty: what you actually get

The same laptop can come with three kinds of warranty in Pakistan. Who repairs it, where, and what to check before you buy.

Two shops can sell the same laptop at different prices, and often the difference is the warranty. In Pakistan you will mostly see three kinds. None is wrong; they just mean different things when something breaks. We label the warranty on every laptop's page, and it is printed on your invoice.

Official warranty

Given by the brand itself, through its authorised distributor in Pakistan. Repairs happen at the brand's authorised service centres, using genuine parts. It usually needs the invoice and the laptop's serial number, and some brands ask you to register the laptop online.

Best for: expensive laptops you plan to keep for years.

Local warranty

Given by the importer or distributor that brought the laptop into the country, not by the brand. Repairs go through that company's own service setup. How quickly and how well depends on the company, so it is worth asking who stands behind it.

Best for: laptops that aren't officially sold here, or a lower price with some cover.

Shop warranty

Given by the store you buy from. The shop checks the laptop and repairs or replaces it under its own terms. When a laptop on Bytesline carries a Bytesline warranty, its length is on the product page and on your invoice.

Best for: open-box, refurbished and used laptops, where the brand's own warranty may have ended.

What warranties usually don't cover

  • Physical damage: drops, cracked screens, broken hinges.
  • Liquid spills.
  • Damage from power surges. Plug in through a surge protector or UPS, especially when the power comes back after load-shedding.
  • Software problems, viruses and lost data. Back up what matters.

Every warranty has its own terms, so read them before you buy, and ask if anything is unclear.

Keep your warranty valid

  • Keep the invoice and the box with its serial number label.
  • Register the laptop with the brand if it asks you to.
  • Don't open the laptop or let an unauthorised shop repair it while it is under warranty.

Not sure which one you're getting?

Ask us before you order. We will tell you exactly who gives the warranty on any laptop and what it covers.
